In a split second, the lives of some are transformed forever.

This was the reality for Joni Eareckson Tada who, in one split second, went from being an active young woman to facing every day in a wheelchair.

And as this month marks the 40thanniversary of her award-winning autobiography, Joni: An Unforgettable Story, I thought it fitting to share it with my Sunday School Class.  Our class of single women includes those who have never been married as well as those whose lives have been changed in a split second when a husband has left a marriage or a husband has passed away.

Joni’s story of the hard-earned truths she discovered and the special ways God revealed His love through hardship and suffering, resonate with many of us. Here are just five of the many “nuggets” of inspiration and encouragement Joni shares in the book:

We aren’t always responsible for the circumstances in which we find ourselves.  However, we are responsible for the way we respond to them.

I began a habit of giving thanks, even when I didn’t feel thankful. After awhile, a curious thing happened.  I began to feel thankful!

God allows certain circumstances to come into our lives almost as a rasp to file down the rough edges, to smooth us into gems.

He uses our problems for His glory and our good.

Circumstances have been placed in my life for the purpose of cultivating my character and confirming me to reflect Christlike qualities.

The same messages of hope and focus on Christ which Joni wrote of in her book are shared daily on “Joni and Friends® and “Diamonds in the Dust.”  Contact me to add either, or both, of the programs to your line-up and plant seeds which could lead to the transformation of listener lives forever!
