I’ve been learning recently that the Lord is strategic. I think we often refer to this as His providence.

Do you ever feel like the Lord is, not so subtly, hitting you with a topic? Lately, it feels like everywhere I turn I’m reminded of the topic of servanthood. Like clockwork, it’s mentioned in every sermon, conversation, and social media post.

It’s clear, there’s an area of my life that needs adjusting.

In the past few months, I’ve moved to a new house, in a new city, with new friends. In the whirlwind of all these life-changes, I’ve become distracted. How will I get settled? How will I find community? How will I build a life for myself? I’m realizing I’ve succumb to a self-serving attitude and mindset. With all of these blinking signs, from every direction, I am reminded of my true calling of that of a servant.

As I’ve been praying through this theme of servanthood, asking the Lord to direct and use me, I’ve come across Max Lucado’s The Happiness Challenge. Apparently, it seems I’m not the only one who needs this reminder because, in an upcoming feature, Max challenges listeners to a 40-day intentional practice to spread joy to others:

“Set out to alter the joy level of forty people over the next forty days. Pray for people, serve more, practice patience and bring the best out in people. Keep a journal in which you describe the encounter and what you did. Take the happiness challenge, and see if you aren’t the one smiling in the end.”

What a perfect place to start! This challenge provides me the opportunity to practice servanthood by spreading joy. I can’t wait to see what He will do.

You too are servants for His kingdom. Because you air UpWords, you are being used to spread joy and daily impact those in your community. So thank you for your continued partnership!
