Ever notice that the best way to get your mind off your own problems is to focus on encouraging someone who is struggling with their own challenges?

It’s true . . . more often than not, your life will become better by making other lives better.

And this year, I’m particularly excited about living this out with my children as we participate in the Joni and Friend’s Valentine’s Day outreach, Heart for the disabled.

Every February, Joni and Friends asks friends of the ministry to participate in this special Valentine’s Day tradition of sending cards to 5 families affected by disabilities who desperately need encouragement!

Each year we choose families who are facing extraordinary hardship, and then we invite people to send them words of encouragement. Whether it’s a traditional Valentine card or a handmade drawing, the lines of a beloved hymn, or a verse of Scripture, the idea is to remind these special-needs families that they are not alone. God has not forgotten them and we get to be His hands and feet in reminding them of His great love.

It’s not too late for you to join in this simple ministry opportunity! Go to the ministry’s Heart for the Disabled web page and meet the 5 families they’ve chosen to receive this timely and extra special encouragement! (Trust me, you’ll be so moved by the testimony of these 5 families, you may choose to send a Valentine’s Day card to each one of them!)

And speaking of encouragement, if you aren’t following Joni on Facebook yet, take a moment and like her page to receive updates on her cancer journey and ways you (and your listeners) can keep her prayer.

P.S. Are you heading to SoCal for NRB next month? Let me know at lee@ambaa.com  — I’m coordinating Joni’s NRB schedule and would be great to enjoy a visit and time of fellowship!
