We recently had a potluck at Ambassador and I brought this recipe that I have had for over 30 years.  You can prepare it a day ahead if needed, but don’t forget to add some additional cooking time.


Jani’s Layered Casserole


2 pounds ground beef

1 clove of garlic

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon sugar

2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce

1 12-ounce package wide egg noodles

1 bunch green onions, sliced

1½ cups sour cream

6 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup grated cheddar cheese


Brown meat, drain off fat and add garlic, salt, pepper, sugar and tomato sauce; simmer for 15 minutes.

In a large bowl mix green onions, sour cream and cream cheese.

Cook the noodles according to package directions; drain and stir noodles into the cream cheese mixture until blended.

In a casserole dish, layer noodles then meat; repeat.  Cover and bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until heated through.  Uncover and add cheese; return to oven until cheese is melted.
