I love watching magic tricks and illusions.  Half the fun is trying to figure out how the illusion, or sleight of hand, is done. That’s why I’ve been fascinated recently by the TV program Fool Us, hosted by the famous magic duo, Penn and Teller. The two giants of magic watch other magicians perform and try to figure out how they do their tricks. It’s fun to watch the tricks – especially when the contestants outsmart Penn and Teller!

Every time I watch Penn Jillette, though, I also think about his outspoken atheism. And yet, he’s not the usual, hostile kind of atheist, but one who actually encourages Christians to share their faith.

A few years ago, for example, Penn recounted his encounter with a fan who gave him a Bible after a show. In fact, Penn was so impressed with the gift that he posted a YouTube video about it, which John Sorensen discussed on a recent Share Life Today:

Penn seems genuinely thankful and asks the question, “How much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize them?”  He goes on to ask, “How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?”  Penn even goes so far as to say that if he saw a truck barreling down on someone, and they weren’t getting out of the way, he’d tackle them in order to save them. … Now, I’m not suggesting we tackle anyone, but how about talking to them so they’ll know how they can be in Heaven with God someday and how they can have life to the full now? Some may not want to hear, but at least they’ll know we cared.

You can watch the full Penn Jillette video here.

These are the types of witnessing tips and stories of encouragement heard each day on Share Life Today. If you haven’t yet added this daily one-minute feature to your lineup, please consider it today.
