For many of us in California, neighboring Nevada as we do, we have friends (or friends of friends), who were in Las Vegas on Sunday attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival country music event.

Reading through my social media feeds, there are praises and prayers — praise for the safety of friends and family who escaped harm, prayer for those who were injured and prayer for those who lost loved ones.

Brad Mattes shares in a special radio message he recorded in response to the tragedy in Las Vegas,

It’s impossible to fathom such disregard for innocent human life.  As a pro-lifer, I understand the intense pain and grief that comes with death.

We struggle with how to respond to the senseless tragedy . . . looking for explanations which may never come.  Certainly, though, the reality of what happened in Las Vegas remains: 59 people dead, 527 injured – one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.

Many have gathered in prayer for those directly impacted by the tragedy — Brad and the Life Issues team did as well and they made scripture the center of their prayer time:

Together in our chapel we leaned on Scripture.  In John 14:27, Jesus tells His disciples and us, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

As Brad shared,

So cling to this peace from Jesus.  Please also pray for those wounded and the families and friends of the slain.  And please also pray for the medical staff taking care of them.

(For current “Life Issues” partners, this special program edition automatically replaced the regularly scheduled program for today.  If you aren’t currently airing the one-minute feature from Brad though and would like to air this special edition of the program recorded in response to the Las Vegas tragedy,  contact me for clearance.)
