Do you remember getting asked as a child, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answers children give are always charming. From the perspective of a kindergartner, it seems the whole world is in front of you, and there is nothing you can’t achieve.

Yet ask that same question to a senior in college, as I was one just recently, and I can assure you, those same emotions of excitement are not likely evoked. Those who are unsure of the future dread hearing the words, “What are you doing with the rest of your life?”

So… what happens between ages 5 and 22? How did we lose the expectation that we can achieve anything?

Interestingly enough, Max Lucado speaks on this topic in his 1:00 feature UpWords by encouraging listeners that we are handpicked by the Creator of the universe. As, chosen ones, we are also given great gifts, talents, and skills to be used for His glory. This is no act of our own, but rather the outpouring of God’s grace and love.

I realize for me as a young adult to understand my purpose here on earth, I must first understand this truth: I am chosen. I must allow that time to soak in, it is only then that my life calling becomes clear. In Max Lucado’s UpWords series, listeners receive daily encouragement on how to live out their kingdom calling.

Because of your partnership with this ministry, listeners are reminded “when you do the most with what you do the best, you put a smile on God’s face.” What a privilege to be able to share this kind of message with listeners!
