YouTube has become one of the best ways to amplify communication with your listeners beyond the airwaves:

  • YouTube has more than 2.6 billion active users as of 2023.
  • It’s the 2nd largest search engine next to Google.
  • People upload more than 100 hours of video per minute to YouTube.

Here are three reasons your radio station should consider making YouTube part of your digital strategy:

  1. Video is Mobile Friendly

With so many of your listeners using smart phones, video is a great additional platform to reach them.  YouTube is highly optimized for mobile devices and the majority of your listeners are likely already using it.

  1. Improve your Search Engine Optimization

Video is one of the most popular content formats and it’s regularly shared via social media. Google and other search engines tend to favor video, so sharing video via YouTube, and this is key, with good titles, descriptions and tags, is a great way to improve your search engine ranking. Translation: more people will find your radio station.

  1. A Wider Audience for Your Station

Not only is YouTube among the biggest social media platforms, only Facebook (2.9 billion) has more active users, video themselves are highly sharable.  Just consider how often you see videos pop up in your Timelines on Facebook or Instagram.  And, think about how often people email or text you videos? Consider videotaping your on-air announcers in the studio, uploading it to YouTube and then pointing your listeners to it on the air – it’s a great tool to give your listeners a behind the scenes look at the personalities they’re hearing on the radio and at the same time, providing your station another platform to engage with your audience.
