Have you heard about the latest trend in extreme BASE jumping?  An adventurer in a wingsuit jumps out of a plane or off a cliff, gliding for long distances (and often perilously close to tree tops) before deploying his parachute. Click here for a video of some of this heart-stopping action.

According to the thrill-seeker trainers at wingsuitfly.com, each student needs to complete 200 traditional skydives before they are even permitted to try a wingsuit.  So even though the extreme BASE jumpers look like they’re taking a leap of faith, their feats actually require countless hours of training and skill.

In a similar way, atheists and skeptics often say that believing in God is a blind leap of faith. But we Christians know that if you study the Bible, it’s not a blind leap at all.  The inerrant Word of God is supported by science, history, archaeology and, most importantly, prophecy fulfilled!  On a recent Share Life Today, John Sorensen, president of Evangelism Explosion, said that it is atheists who are taking a blind leap.

Too often it’s the unbeliever who has taken the blind leap of faith, when they have rejected the existence of heaven and hell and of God Himself, without ever investigating the evidence around them. The truth is that there’s nothing blind about our faith. God invites us to come and to consider Him and His truth.  And while we can’t exactly draw a picture of God for the skeptic, we can give him logical proof for His existence.  In fact, just look at the universe.  The proof is all around us that there is a God who created this world.  So we need to be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in us – but with gentleness and respect.

Here’s a link to John Sorensen’s great video series Reasonable Answers for Honest Skeptics, which you’re free to post on your station’s Facebook page or website.  If you don’t yet air Share Life Today, we’d encourage you to do so.  Please let me know by emailing me at charley@ambaa.com
