Hurricane Harvey decimated Houston and Hurricane Irma tore through Florida, leaving in their wake millions of people facing life-changing challenges. Houses are destroyed, streets are flooded, and some families are even dealing with the loss of a loved one. But even if you are not in Texas or Florida, most people you encounter are going through some sort of “storm” in their lives. How can God use bad news or a difficult circumstance for His good purposes? That is a question John Sorensen recently addressed on Share Life Today.
Sorensen says, “A person’s conversation about death, or a tragic current event could open the door for you to tactfully ask them if they know for certain that they themselves have eternal life in Heaven with God? Then you could ask them, ‘May I share with you how I came to know that I have eternal life?’ You see you’ve just created a natural transition into your own testimony and you’ve even asked for permission to share it with them. So remember, conversations about bad news in the media might lead you to introduce the most wonderful news about Jesus Christ.”
As you talk with your neighbors, keep in mind that people are often most receptive to the good news of the gospel during periods of testing. Don’t let those storms pass without sharing the glorious hope that is provided in Jesus Christ!
