1-It’s population ranks #1 in the world—but only slightly ahead of India. Its refugees to USA built American railroads—and did laundry.

3-Officially, it’s a federation—and is the largest country in the world by surface area, covering more than one-eighth of Earth’s inhabited land area.

4-After USA, it is the second most popular immigration destination in the world—and doesn’t Mrs. Merkel know it.

5-They’re building a wall. Oh, wait, oops … ☺.

6-This country has Seoul. And kimchi. And is currently missing its other half ☺.

7-Sometimes known as “The Boot,” it was once the ruler of the world. And what would we do without spaghetti, lasagna, biscotti … ??

8-Petroleum was discovered here in 1938, beginning the country’s catapult to #1 in the world producer of oil.

9-This country consists of … more than 17,000 islands—in fact, the name is derived from Greek for Indian islands.

10-Originally settled as a penal colony for the UK, its renown for its symphony hall, kangaroos and Crocodile Dundee.

11-Past leaders include Louis(s), Napoleon, DeGaulle and now a young fellow named Emmanuel Macron.

12-Our neighbors to the North.

13-Largest (by land) country to the South of us, it has a coastline of nearly 5000 miles including the one we all sang about in the 60s.

14-Population 1.2 billion, this country is home to the Taj Mahal and sacred cows.

15-It’s fascinating story was recounted in Cry, The Beloved Country … and in the life of Nelson Mandela.

16-Having nothing whatsoever to do with Thanksgiving fare, this is a transcontinental country that touches both the Black and Mediterranean Seas.

17-Land of the Rising Sun, it was our WW2 enemy—apparently long forgotten. Its population enjoys the highest life expectancy of any country in the world.

18-Think gauchos. And the battle over the Falklands.
