Many true believers struggle with assurance of salvation.  Was it when I “walked the aisle,” or was it when I was baptized?  Was it when I “prayed the prayer” in Sunday school at a really young age, before I fully understood what sin was? If I don’t “feel” saved, do I have to rededicate my life to Christ?

In a recent article on CoreChristianity.com, Pastor Adriel Sanchez shared three reasons from Scripture to assure ourselves that we truly belong to God. He said,

First, you can know you’re a Christian because you bear good fruit. Healthy fruit—good works—aren’t the cause of our salvation, but they are one of the signs we’re truly born again.

Second, you can know you’re a Christian because the Spirit testifies to you that you are. Believers in Jesus Christ are filled with the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit reminds us that we belong to God.

Third, you can know you’re a Christian because of God’s Word.  When you look to God’s promise to you in the gospel that through Jesus your sins are forgiven and you are made a part of God’s family, you can receive strong encouragement (Heb. 6:18).

It’s a terrific article that you can read in full by clicking here.

Each day on Core Christianity, Mike Horton and Adriel Sanchez answer questions just like this one.  They strive to address the hard, unsettling questions of our times with both skeptics and committed Christians in mind.
